Sugar free chocolate

There are many types of sugar-free chocolate today. Ideal for still enjoying a piece of chocolate without worrying about the sugars. People with diabetes especially benefit from sugar-free chocolate to reduce sugar. It’s just a bit different from regular chocolate and often has a slightly more bitter taste. Stevia extract is often used. This is a substance that is 30 to 100 times sweeter but with little to no calories. Often you can also just buy this in the supermarket at the sugar-free shelf. Most stores do carry the Céréal brand in their assortment.

Health Effects

Sugar-free chocolate alone doesn’t help with your diet. The sweeteners do reduce calories somewhat but not drastically reduce weight. It does have the advantage of lowering your sugar levels if you have diabetes, for example. Another positive effect is that it is better for your teeth. It doesn’t give you a sense of sugar intake so you quickly overeat. Be careful with this! There will always be some natural sugars in it so it is never 100% sugar free.

What is the best sugar-free chocolate?

The Dutch people unanimously agree that the best sugar-free chocolate is the dark variety. This bitter and healthier chocolate variant is generally considered to be the most delicious. Without added sugar but with Stevia and malitol. We also see that with other varieties such as hazelnut or brand, people tend more toward the products that have the highest cocoa content.

Sugar-free chocolate and diabetes

For anyone with diabetes but especially people with type 2 diabetes should pay close attention to their diet. Therefore, taking sugar-free chocolate is a good alternative.
The only pitfall with sugar-free chocolate is that you will want to or eat more of it because it has little to no calories. However, that is not the intention as you will understand.

Is sugar-free chocolate safe ?

Many people are afraid of health risks of sugar-free chocolate because it contains sweeteners. It can be argued but in most cases the health risk is not too bad if you eat it in moderation. That it would be carcinogenic is not entirely scientifically proven because some say it is and others say it is not. The nutrition center and knowledge center sweeteners indicate that it is all safe. However, if you eat too much of it you will have diarrhea faster.

What types of sweeteners are there ?

There are usually 2 types of sweeteners used for sugar-free chocolate. Xylitol; which is extracted from the birch tree. This product has a lot of flavor but not many chocolate bars are available. In the whole of the Netherlands you can count them on 1 hand. Then you have Stevia which is extracted from the Stevia plant. You will find this in most sugar-free products in the Netherlands. It is an all-natural sweetener that is derived from plants. Unfortunately, not many people like the taste because, as with lies products, it has a very different taste

Céreal is the most popular product in terms of sugar-free chocolate and for this reason you can also find it in many supermarkets.
